Our story
From Venezuela to Toronto
Coaches Andrés Baca and Nelson Pérez have been friends since they were 10 years old, growing up playing tennis together at Casa D’Italia club in Maracaibo, Venezuela. They developed a deep love for the sport, competing across Venezuela and South America before transitioning into coaching.
After years of playing competitively and coaching, they made the move to Canada in 2014 and eventually launched Top Performance Tennis Academy to bring high-quality tennis development to players of all ages and abilities.
Our mission
Andrés Baca - Co-Founder & Co-Director
Originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela, Andres moved to Canada in 2014. He is ITF and Tennis Canada Certified, and has completed his Club Pro 2 designation. A former Top-20 junior in Venezuela, he has 15+ years of coaching experience with players of every level — from beginners to high-performance competitors. As Co-Founder and Co-Director, Andres leads the development and delivery of our programs across Toronto.
Fun fact: Beyond tennis, he loves fitness, padel, travel, and exploring food.

Nelson Pérez - Co-Founder & Co-Director
Also from Maracaibo, Nelson moved to Canada in 2014. He is ITF and Tennis Canada Certified (Club Pro 2) with 15+ years of coaching experience. A former Top-10 junior, Nelson competed on the Futures and Challenger tours before focusing on coaching.
At TPTA, he leads program development and coaching across multiple locations. He is also the CEO of Hispanic Sports Media, covering major sporting events and expanding the presence of sports in the Hispanic community.
Fun fact: Outside of tennis, Nelson enjoys music, traveling, movies, and sports.
